How to Set Up PayPal

Setting up PayPal on your AthleteOne account will allow you to automate the payment process and manage payments with your athletes who use PayPal.  

Create a PayPal Account

Before you can Connect with PayPal, you must have an existing PayPal Business Account. This integration does not work with a PayPal personal account.  Follow the steps bellow to create a new PayPal Account.

  1. Visit paypal.com and click the Sign Up or Sign Up for Free button
  2. Select the Business Account options and click the Next button
  3. Select the Business Account Plan that you want to use and click the appropriate button.
  4. Enter the information for you new PayPal account when prompted.
  5. After you have verified your email address you can Activate your PayPal account. PayPal account activation requires you to provide details about your business in order to allow you to accept payments.
  6. Once you have completed the PayPal account activation you can continue with Connecting with PayPal below.

Connecting with PayPal

To accept payments from your customers with PayPal, complete the following steps to connect your AthleteOne Account to your PayPal account.

Navigate to the gear menu in the top right corner of any page in AthleteOne and select My Account.
  1. On the My Account page, click on the Integrations tab.
  2. Click on the PayPal tab 
  3. Click the Authorize button. You will be presented with a page to log in to your PayPal account. Enter the email address and password for your PayPal account, then click the Log In button. **You must have an active PayPal account in order to continue. If you do not have an active PayPal account, please return to the section above titled, Create a PayPal Account.
  4. After successfully logging in to your PayPal account, you will be presented with a page to grant your AthleteOne account permission to access specific information in your PayPal account. Click the Grant Permission button to continue.
  5. After clicking the Grant Permission button, you will be redirected back to AthleteOne and see a message confirming that PayPal permissions have been granted.
  6. You AthleteOne account is now ready to accept payments from PayPal.

Accepting Payments with PayPal


Once you have authorized PayPal on your AthleteOne account, your customers can pay invoices with PayPal. If you have both Stripe and PayPal set up on your AthleteOne account, customers can choose which payment method to use.  

When your customer chooses to pay with PayPal, they will be presented with a form to enter their card details and make the payment. If they have paid with Stripe previously they can choose to use the card on file or submit new card details.

Disconnecting from Paypal


If you no longer want to accept payments from PayPal, you can disconnect your AthleteOne account from PayPal.
  1. On the My Account page, click on the Integrations tab.
  2. Click on the PayPal tab 
  3. Click the Delete button
After your AthleteOne account has been disconnected from PayPal, your customers will no longer be able to make payments with PayPal and you will not be able to manage payments with PayPal.

Limitations

There are some limitations to be aware of when using PayPal to accept payments with AthleteOne. Please review the list below.
  • Refunds can be made from the Payments in PayPal, but they will only be recorded in AthleteOne if the refund is initiated in AthleteOne.
  • You can Disconnect your PayPal account from AthleteOne in AthleteOne, but you must still use the steps above to disallow PayPal payments from your AthleteOne account.  
  • Automated payments functionality is not supported with PayPal at this time.
  • Refunds can only be for the total amount of the invoice.
  • After setting up PayPal (gen2) Automated Payments setup through the PayPal integration (gen1) will continue to work until Dec 31 2017.
